Slack uses an authorization flow rather than an API-key field. Open Settings → Integrations → Slack connection in the intended Summer company. An owner or admin manages the connection.
Connect a workspace
- Select Add Summer to Slack.
- If needed, select Include personal read access before continuing. This adds reads and search through your Slack account, including eligible private vendor channels Summer cannot join. Summer still posts as itself.
- Review Slack’s authorization screen and confirm the correct workspace and permissions.
- Return to Summer and choose the channels it may use.
Without personal read access, Summer reads channels it has joined. In either mode, available Slack permissions and the channel grants you select govern access. Authorizing the workspace does not authorize every channel.
Select channels and check coverage
Use the channel picker to select channels and their Read and Post settings. Customer and vendor posts still need separate approval. Read access alone is enough for a read-only workflow.
Under Connection health, select Verify account access. Check the returned status and last-check time. This verifies the current Slack credential and workspace; it does not establish access to every channel.
Inspect Messages and files for each selected read channel:
- View messages shows saved conversation history and its sync status.
- View thread opens saved replies; thread sync can still be pending after channel history has loaded.
- Load older messages retrieves earlier saved results.
- Original attachments are available when their status is stored. Pending or failed file reads remain visible.
- Sender directory shows people and apps observed in the selected channels. An unavailable profile keeps its original sender ID.
Read sync errors and coverage notices before interpreting missing results. Initial history fetched is separate from every thread and attachment being available. With personal search access, use the search panel for selected read channels and open the source in Slack when needed.
Open Summer in Slack
Open Summer in Slack opens the app’s Home and setup help. Where available, Send me a setup DM sends an explicit setup message to you. If delivery is uncertain, check your DMs and connection history before trying again.
Slack DMs currently support setup help. Review case investigations and approvals in the Summer dashboard.
Reconnect or disconnect
Use Upgrade or reconnect Slack if permissions need updating or the token is no longer valid. Reconnecting with the same personal reader retains selected read channels. Changing the reader requires fresh channel selection.
Disconnect Slack stops the connection. Review Connection history for changes and check any dependent workflows with Summer. Slack setup does not enable your company’s operational case runtime by itself.
